Introducing Minooka Chiropractor Dr. Darren Cissell

Everything has its place in health and medicine, and I try to be a voice for wellness in this community and affect one life at a time. As a chiropractic physician, I incorporate many areas of wellness into the health center, including massage therapy, acupuncture, classes and seminars on wellness, community talks, therapies such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, ice and heat and myofascial release.

Dr. Darren CissellI was born and raised in beautiful western Canada. I split my pre-med studies between the University of Calgary, Canada, and the University of Hawaii. After obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree, I had the travel bug and ventured the high seas working for Princess Cruises. Following that adventure, I pursued another passion and worked in the motion picture industry working my way up to a Production Coordinator and Assistant Director for Disney, NBC, Paramount, and the Discovery Channel among several others. However, my true passion and life ambitions have always been connected to chiropractic. Growing up in a chiropractic family made my calling and commitment to the field a natural transition. I therefore went back to college and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 2002 with my doctorate in chiropractic. I was asked to stay on at Palmer as an academic consultant, where I remained until I started practicing in Channahon in November 2003. I also attended the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard where I studied acupuncture.

My passion and commitment to chiropractic is reflective in how sincere and honest I try to be to my patients. They are like my family and I want to help them and their loved ones in any way I can with all their health goals. I take pride in providing gentle care for each patient. I enjoy working with patients from babies to adults and particularly enjoy treating local athletes. I am proud to be a part of the "Channookan" community and reside in Channahon with my lovely wife and four boys.

I get adjusted about twice a month or more depending on my activity level. I love to run and lift weights. Living a wellness-oriented lifestyle is of the utmost importance to me and it transcends into my practice and household. I try to influence my boys and wife to eat more fruit and veggies, to get moderate exercise, proper sleep, and to drink ample water. We also try and take Omega 3 fish oils and probiotics daily now that I've seen the research. We all get busy, but I always say just try and add some of these good things instead of trying to take all the bad things away. It really boils down to how well you treat your body over your lifetime. It's never too late to start doing the best you can. It's a machine that needs to be taken care of or it will let you down. I know this with complete certainty and I teach this concept to my patients. I consider myself an excellent listener and motivator of helping others achieve their goals. Having a complete understanding of your needs and creating a strategy to attain them is what I do best.

Dr. Cissell Asks some important questions of interest to Minooka residents - Chiropractor Minooka Dr. Cissell Asks...

Can vertebral subluxation complexes clear up on their own?
Sometimes. Today's hectic lifestyles can be a constant source of vertebral subluxation complexes. Fortunately, our bodies have the ability to self-correct many of these minor problems as we bend and stretch, or when we sleep at night. When vertebral subluxation complexes don't resolve, you need to see our Minooka office for chiropractic care!
What's a side effect?
It may sound like a bonus; something extra, but chiropractors know it should more accurately called an "unintended effect," and "unwanted effect" or in some cases an "adverse effect." A pill can't come close to matching your body's ability to create and deliver the essential compounds it needs. That's when it's important to make sure your nervous system is working correctly—the purpose of chiropractic care!
